Hyderabad: Telangana BJP president N Ramachander Rao on Tuesday demanded a full investigation into the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) tender process, alleging deep-rooted corruption by both the Congress and BRS governments.
At a press conference in Delhi, Rao said the cancellation of the Naini coal block tenders exposed “commission-driven governance.” He claimed the tenders were crafted to benefit relatives and associates of Congress leaders. “These tenders were never about development,” he said. Rao also described the introduction of site visits as a “planned conspiracy” to enable favoritism.
BJP targets BRS, questions SCCL employee decline
Rao criticised the BRS for writing to Union Minister Kishan Reddy on SCCL, calling it hypocritical. He accused both the Congress and BRS of running SCCL as a “joint venture for corruption.” Highlighting a sharp drop in employee numbers, he said SCCL had thousands of workers earlier, but that number fell to 42,000 under BRS rule and has now declined further to 38,000.
Rao questioned SCCL’s financial management. He asked how a company claiming losses could afford ₹10 crore as sponsorship for the Messi Telangana event. He also said the Congress-led state government owed SCCL more than ₹50,000 crore in unpaid dues.
BJP seeks CBI, SIT, or Vigilance probe
Rao urged central agencies like the CBI, SIT, or Vigilance to probe all Singareni tenders issued under both the BRS and Congress regimes. He accused the Congress of continuing the BRS’s corruption legacy. “Only a double engine sarkar can bring real change in Telangana,” he said.
Rao dismissed talk of internal divisions in the BJP, calling it false propaganda by Congress and BRS. “BJP is one team,” he said. He also criticised the Congress government for targeting only officials in the phone-tapping and Kaleshwaram cases while protecting political masterminds.
Calls for accountability from Deputy CM
Rao demanded that Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka explain why the Naini tenders were cancelled. He appealed to voters to support BJP in the upcoming municipal elections to end commission-based politics.
BJP leaders Anji Reddy, S. Kumar, and Gujjula Premender Reddy also attended the press conference.
