Hyderabad: Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao on Friday appealed to women to support the party in upcoming elections, declaring that the BJP remained committed to women empowerment and welfare.
Speaking at a “Mahila Sammelan” in Aloor village, Ranga Reddy district, Rao accused both BRS and Congress governments of failing to deliver meaningful benefits to women in Telangana. He listed several central schemes including Ujjwala Yojana, Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Stand Up India, and Start Up India.
“Before 2014, very few women had bank accounts. After Narendra Modi became Prime Minister, lakhs of women benefited from Jan Dhan Yojana,” he said. Rao also pointed out that the BJP elevated a tribal woman, Droupadi Murmu, to the Presidency and included two women in the Union Cabinet.
Rao accused Congress of misleading women with “false promises” such as ₹2,500 monthly assistance, ₹1 lakh with a tola of gold for weddings, and free scooters for young women. He reminded that it was Prime Minister Modi who ensured 33 percent reservation for women.
Highlighting local issues, he said women complained that RTC bus services had been cut after the announcement of free bus rides, causing inconvenience in rural areas. He urged women to stand with the BJP in the coming local body elections and “teach a lesson to the ruling Congress.”
Earlier, Rao interacted with cotton farmers in Khanapur village of Chevella constituency.
