HYDERABAD: Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka has pledged to transform Madhira town into a model municipality, beginning with a major underground drainage project valued at ₹128 crore. On Sunday, he performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the works near the YSR statue in the heart of the town.
Speaking at the event, Vikramarka said that the project marks the fulfilment of a long-standing demand from the residents for a modern underground sewage system. The initiative, funded by the state government, will include the installation of 99.56 kilometres of sewer pipelines, connections to 6,638 households, and the construction of four sewage treatment plants (STPs).
The proposed STPs will be established at strategic locations: a 5 MLD (million litres per day) plant near the old dumping yard on Rayapatnam Road, a 0.9 MLD plant at Madupalli, a 0.4 MLD plant near Madhira Lake at Amberpet, and a 0.5 MLD facility near the sub-registrar office in Illandulapadu.
Vikramarka also highlighted complementary infrastructure initiatives, including the construction of a major stormwater drain, an RCC retaining wall, and the installation of operational control equipment (OCEMS). He directed officials to maintain quality standards and ensure the entire project is completed within two years. The new drainage system, he said, would significantly enhance public health and sanitation across Madhira.
The launch event was attended by Vaira MLA Malothu Ramdas Naik, Telangana Warehousing Corporation Chairman Rayala Nageswara Rao, Khammam RDO Narasimharao, DCC President Puvvala Durgaprasad, Mandal President Suramshetty Kishore, Municipal Chairman Venkataramana Gupta, Commissioner Sampath, Madhira Tahsildar Rambabu, and other local dignitaries.
