Bhatti pushes for tech upgrades, faster FOMS rollout in SPDCL review

Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka on Tuesday told senior officials of the Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Limited (SPDCL) to speed up technology adoption and modernise services to match evolving consumer needs.

At a review meeting held at Praja Bhavan, Bhatti directed officials to finish rolling out the Feeder Outage Management System (FOMS), which gives real-time alerts on power disruptions. Of the 6,500 feeders under SPDCL, 5,500 have already been linked to FOMS, and the Deputy CM asked for quick integration of the remaining feeders.

Congratulating SPDCL for securing the ISO 9000 certification, he called it a performance-based achievement in operations, consumer services, and timely file disposal. Bhatti advised officials to work toward additional recognitions and awards.

He also reviewed the field staff’s new dress code and offered suggestions on implementing it. Stressing the depth of experience among SPDCL’s directors, Bhatti urged each one to plan and clear pending tasks under their charge.

The Deputy CM pointed out services now available to power consumers, noting that the 1912 helpline works on a model similar to the 108 ambulance, enabling rapid response to complaints. He appreciated the Emergency Response Team’s quick interventions through specialized vehicles. He added that transformers and substations are being installed proactively once the load hits 70% to ensure steady supply.

He called for awareness campaigns to inform the public about these services and underlined that a solar power strategy is also being readied. Bhatti directed staff to stay prepared for its rollout.

The review was attended by Naveen Mittal, CMD of the Energy Department; SPDCL CMD Musharraf Faruqui; and several directors and Chief Engineers.
