BC groups plan Delhi protest for 50% reservation, central ministry

Hyderabad: Backwards Class groups will hold a nationwide protest in Delhi on June 23 and 24 seeking 50% reservation for BCs in Assembly and Parliament elections and the formation of a dedicated Ministry for BC welfare at the Centre, announced National BC Welfare Association president R. Krishnaiah.

Addressing a gathering of Telugu state BC welfare associations in Basheerbagh on Wednesday, Krishnaiah said large contingents from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Odisha would participate in the “Chalo Delhi” mobilisation.

The meeting, chaired by Andhra Pradesh BC Welfare Association head Bonu Durga Naresh, called for immediate legislative action to strengthen BC political representation. Leaders urged the Telangana Cabinet, scheduled to meet on Thursday, to issue a special government order guaranteeing 42% reservation for BCs in the upcoming local body polls.

Wall posters for the Delhi protest were released at the event. Association convenor Gujja Krishna, BC Youth Association state president Jillipalli Anji, and BC Student Association state secretaries Ramdev Modi Yadav and Pagilla Satish, along with other AP BC leaders Sharada, Vikram, P. Prabhu and S. Satish, were present.
