Hyderabad: Leaders of the Auto Drivers’ Joint Action Committee (JAC) on Tuesday welcomed the state government’s decision to permit 60,000 additional autos within the limits of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and Outer Ring Road (ORR).
Speaking at a press conference held at the Press Club in Basheerbagh, JAC representatives described the Government Order as a significant move that would provide direct benefits to thousands employed in the informal transport sector.
The JAC also said the government is considering the formation of a welfare board for transport workers, which they believe would provide structured support to drivers and workers in the industry.
The committee thanked CPI Floor Leader Sambasiva Rao and MLC Kodandaram for advocating their demands and helping secure government approval. As a gesture of gratitude, JAC members performed a milk abhishekam to the portraits of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar.
JAC leaders also urged the government to review and revise existing auto meter charges to reflect rising fuel and maintenance costs.
