Hyderabad: The campaign for the Jubilee Hills by-election reached its peak on Tuesday. Major political parties are racing to secure victory in a contest that could shape Telangana’s political direction.
Auto politics Jubilee Hills: Seethakka joins campaign on wheels
Auto politics in Jubilee Hills has turned intense. Both Congress and BRS are competing to win the support of auto drivers, a key voter base in Hyderabad.
On Monday, BRS leaders travelled in autos to hear drivers’ grievances. The next day, Minister Seethakka also joined the campaign by travelling in an auto. Her gesture immediately drew public attention and added energy to the campaign.
During her interaction, Seethakka assured drivers that the government would solve their problems soon. Moreover, she said the Congress government had introduced several welfare schemes for poor families.
Auto drivers, however, expressed concern that the free bus travel scheme for women had reduced their income. They urged the government to compensate them for the losses caused by the Mahalakshmi scheme.
Congress, BRS in close fight for drivers’ support
Meanwhile, BRS continued to attack the government for not fulfilling its election promise of ₹12,000 annual aid for auto drivers. The party also pointed out that many male drivers now face difficulties because of the women’s travel scheme.
In the past, BRS members had raised similar issues in the Assembly. Therefore, the renewed debate over auto politics has once again taken centre stage. Political observers believe the issue could become a key weapon for the opposition in Telangana.
For now, all eyes are on Jubilee Hills as the Congress and BRS battle for advantage on the streets. The outcome may reveal which party understands the pulse of the working class better.
