Andhra Pradesh constable nabbed for smuggling drugs worth ₹2 crore

Hyderabad: In a dramatic bust, Telangana’s SOT police have arrested a serving constable from Andhra Pradesh and five of his accomplices on charges of smuggling cocaine and other drugs valued at nearly ₹2 crore.

The constable, identified as Gunasekhar, 40, hailing from Tirupati, was allegedly ferrying the drugs from Addanki in Bapatla district to Hyderabad’s Kukatpally. Acting on a tip-off, the Cyberabad SOT swooped in on the gang and seized around 840 grams of cocaine, along with other narcotics and cash.

According to the police, Gunasekhar wasn’t working alone. Among those arrested was Unnam Surendra, 31, an unemployed man from the Tirupati rural area; contractor Donthi Reddy Haribabu Reddy, 38, from Karlapalem mandal in Bapatla district; and Chegudu Mercy Margaret, 34, a fast food outlet operator from Addanki. Also caught were Sheikh Mastanwali, 40, and Devaraju Yesubabu, 29, who allegedly played key roles in the operation.

Officials revealed that the gang had been operating a well-coordinated network to move high-value narcotics into the city, with the Andhra Pradesh constable providing crucial logistics support. SOT teams, acting swiftly on intelligence inputs, intercepted the suspects and made the arrests, effectively dismantling a significant drug smuggling ring.

The investigation is ongoing, with police examining the gang’s wider network and financial links. Authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, underlining the serious impact of drug trafficking on communities.
