Hyderabad: The deadly grip of online betting has claimed yet another life in Telangana, this time in Rajanna Sircilla district, exposing the tragic human toll of the digital gambling menace.
Despite bans on betting apps, new platforms continue to flood mobile phones, trapping both youngsters and professionals alike. Many, lured by promises of easy money, stake everything they have, only to sink into a mire of debt. Some, unable to bear the harassment of lenders, end their lives, leaving their families shattered.
The latest victim, 25-year-old Tummla Vamshi from Deshaipalle village in Tangallapalli mandal, had been working as a wheel alignment mechanic in Karimnagar. Vamshi, like many others, fell prey to the lure of online betting apps and ended up borrowing nearly ₹10 lakh to feed his addiction.
When his losses mounted and repayment seemed impossible, Vamshi’s desperation spiralled. On Monday (June 9), unable to see a way out, he walked to a field near his home and hanged himself from a tree.
His distraught family, grappling with the shock of their son’s death, lodged a complaint with the local police, who have since registered a case and launched an investigation.
Vamshi’s parents and relatives, overwhelmed by grief, are struggling to come to terms with their loss. “We’ve lost our son to this betting demon,” they wept.
This tragic incident underscores the darker side of online betting a trap that has ensnared countless lives, leaving families devastated and communities in mourning.
