Hyderabad: East Zone police took SI Bhanu Prakash into custody on Monday after registering two cases linked to alleged financial misconduct and loss of official property. The cases followed a preliminary inquiry that flagged serious lapses during his posting at Amberpet police station.
SI Bhanu Prakash, a 2020 batch sub-inspector, worked at several police stations under the Hyderabad Police Commissionerate. At the time of the incident, he served as crime SI at Amberpet. Senior officers said his conduct violated rules governing handling of case property and service weapons.
Officials said repeated betting losses pushed him into financial trouble. Consequently, senior officers ordered criminal action and began questioning him. At the same time, the department initiated internal disciplinary proceedings.
SI Bhanu Prakash misused recovered gold from theft case
Police officials said SI Bhanu Prakash investigated a theft case involving four tolas of gold registered at his police station. During the inquiry, he recovered the stolen gold but failed to return it to the complainants.
Instead, officials said he misled the victims and persuaded them to close the case through Lok Adalat. Even after the closure, he did not hand over the gold. Investigators said he later pledged the recovered gold outside to raise money.
Officials also accused SI Bhanu Prakash of selling his service revolver to gangs operating in the Rayalaseema region. The issue surfaced after information reached senior officers. They conducted a preliminary probe and prepared a report. Based on its findings, police registered two cases, turning the issue into a major topic of discussion within the department.
