Afzalgunj ganja seizure: Two interstate transporters arrested

Hyderabad: Afzalgunj Police arrested two interstate drug transporters and seized 10.32 kg of contraband in an Afzalgunj ganja seizure registered under the NDPS Act.

Police booked Crime No.71/2026 under Sections 8(c) read with 20(b)(ii)(B) of the NDPS Act-1985 at Afzalgunj Police Station. Officers apprehended the accused on 14-02-2026 at about 17:35 hrs near the MGBS area.

The arrested persons were identified as Ashish Shikdhar, 60, and Bhima Jali, 34, both residents of Malkangiri district in Odisha State. Police said Mouni, about 40 years old and also from Malkangiri, acted as the drug peddler and is absconding.

During the Afzalgunj ganja seizure, officers recovered 10.32 kg of ganja concealed in two specially designed vests with multiple pockets. The accused had worn shirts and jackets to hide the packets. Police also seized two cell phones, two jackets and cash of Rs.2,380.

Investigators said the duo worked as farmers and labourers in Odisha. However, they allegedly agreed to transport ganja after Mouni offered Rs.2,000 per kg. On 29.01.2026, they allegedly transported 6 kg to Hyderabad using similar concealment methods and delivered it to an unknown receiver.

Transport route traced in Afzalgunj ganja seizure case

Police said that on 13.02.2026, Mouni handed over 10 kg of ganja and Rs.5,000 to the accused and instructed them to deliver it at the MGBS gate to a receiver known only to him. The duo boarded an RTC bus at Palwanacha and reached Hyderabad the same day.

As the receiver did not arrive, they reportedly took shelter on roads near MGBS and began wandering in the area. Patrolling staff noticed their suspicious movement and apprehended them red-handed on 14-02-2026.

Senior officers said Afzalgunj Police had intensified patrolling and deployed informants to curb illegal activities. Sri G. Chandra Mohan, DCP, Golconda Zone, along with Sri Krishna Goud, Addl. DCP, and Sri S. Sudarshan, ACP, Goshamahal Division, supervised the detection. The DCP appreciated the work of SHO Sri N. Ravi, Det. Insp. Sri B. Ravi Kiran, SIs Sri K. Niranjan and Sri M. Subhash, and other staff members, and announced suitable rewards.
