Hyderabad: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) conducted searches linked to NIMS Additional Medical Superintendent Dr. Lakshmi Bhaskar over alleged disproportionate assets. Officials estimated that the market value of the identified properties could exceed Rs. 80 crore.
The ACB registered a case after a preliminary inquiry allegedly found that Bhaskar had accumulated assets beyond his known means. Officials began simultaneous searches early Tuesday at his residence in Kalpataruvu Apartments, Erragadda, and seven other locations.
The other premises were linked to relatives, friends, benami holders and close associates, according to the source. The searches reportedly uncovered movable and immovable assets that the ACB attributed to corruption and alleged illegal activities.
The ACB valued the identified movable and immovable assets at Rs. 6.13 crore based on available documents. However, officials said their market value could be considerably higher and estimated it at more than Rs. 80 crore.
Officials said verification of additional assets was still underway. The searches identified properties in Kukatpally and Manikonda, along with open plots in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Nandigama and Shamirpet.
The ACB also identified an 800-square-yard open plot in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. Luxury vehicles, electronic gadgets and more than half a kilogram of gold jewellery were also reportedly found.
The identified financial holdings included investments in private companies and mutual funds. Officials also found bank balances of Rs. 41 lakh and post office deposits worth Rs. 12 lakh.
ACB raids NIMS doctor and identifies properties, investments
The property details included a four-bedroom flat in a high-rise gated community. Officials also identified two three-bedroom flats in a high-rise gated community in Kukatpally.
Five two-bedroom flats were identified in Manikonda, Pet Basheerabad and Kukatpally. In addition, four open plots were identified across Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Nandigama and Shamirpet.
The ACB also listed the 800-square-yard Visakhapatnam plot among the identified properties. Financial records reportedly showed Rs. 41 lakh in bank balances and Rs. 12 lakh in post office deposits.
Other identified investments included Rs. 35 lakh in finance-related holdings. Mutual fund investments were valued at Rs. 29.55 lakh, according to the source.
The searches also reportedly uncovered 517.8 grams of gold ornaments. Officials identified vehicles including Jaguar, Audi and Tata Nexon models, along with four motorcycles and electronic gadgets.
The ACB further identified Rs. 1.30 crore paid for the purchase of a disputed DRT flat. The source also said a total of Rs. 1.33 crore had been given as interest to various individuals.
The ACB’s valuation of the identified assets and the estimated market value differed substantially. Officials said further verification and examination of additional assets would continue.
