ACB catches Legal Metrology inspector and technician in Rs 20,000 bribery case

Hyderabad: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials from Nalgonda Range caught a Legal Metrology inspector and a private individual in a Rs 20,000 bribery case on Wednesday, October 28. The accused included K. Venkateswarlu, Inspector of Legal Metrology in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, and Kasaram Ravinder, a petrol pump technician.

According to the ACB, Venkateswarlu allegedly demanded Rs 20,000 for issuing a verification certificate and returning a petrol bunk’s daily sales register. Acting on the inspector’s instructions, Ravinder allegedly collected the amount from the complainant at L.B. Nagar in Hyderabad.

Legal Metrology inspector allegedly sought Rs 15,000 share

ACB officials stated that the accused had allegedly agreed to divide the Rs 20,000 bribe between themselves. Of the total amount, Rs 15,000 was allegedly intended for Venkateswarlu, while Ravinder was to receive the remaining Rs 5,000.

The inspector allegedly sought the payment as a reward for issuing the verification certificate and handing over the petrol bunk’s daily sales register. Meanwhile, Ravinder allegedly acted as the intermediary and collected the money on the inspector’s behalf. ACB personnel recovered the entire Rs 20,000 in tainted currency from Ravinder’s possession during the operation.

Following the operation, ACB officials initiated proceedings to produce both accused before the Principal Special Judge for SPE and ACB Cases at Nampally for judicial remand. The Legal Metrology inspector and the petrol pump technician faced allegations relating to the demand and collection of the bribe.

According to the ACB, the investigation into the bribery case remained underway. Authorities also withheld the complainant’s identity for security reasons.
