85-year-old woman murdered for jewellery in Dundigal; case solved in 24 hours

Hyderabad: Dundigal Police solved the murder of an 85-year-old woman within 24 hours, arresting a former domestic worker who killed the victim and fled with her jewellery.

According to ACP Medchal Division Ch. Shankar Reddy, the accused, P. Kavitha (36), bludgeoned Chinnabattini Susheelamma to death with a stone and stole her gold jewellery. She later sold the stolen items, which included a pair of gold earrings and a finger ring.

CCTV footage helps police crack case swiftly

Footage from surveillance cameras installed by a local resident, Srikar Reddy of Church Gagillapur, played a key role in identifying the accused. Dundigal Police, with assistance from CCS and SOT teams, recovered the stolen ornaments and a mobile phone from Kavitha.

Police officials announced that Srikar Reddy will be formally honoured for aiding the investigation.

The department urged residents and commercial establishments to install CCTV cameras, calling them critical tools for both crime prevention and investigation.
