2025 marks turning point for TGSPDCL with citizen-centric power reforms

Hyderabad: The year 2025 marked a pivotal shift in Telangana’s power sector, with TGSPDCL implementing extensive citizen-centric reforms to improve service delivery and infrastructure, according to CMD Musharraf Faruqui.

Among the most impactful initiatives was Karentollaa Praja Baata, a field-level outreach programme launched under Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka’s guidance. Under this initiative, TGSPDCL staff visited colonies, bastis, and villages every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday from 8 a.m. onwards. They directly interacted with consumers to identify and address local electrical issues, often resolving them on the same day.

TGSPDCL power reforms target grassroots and urban upgrades

Through Karentollaa Praja Baata, the utility rectified around 1,800 damaged or tilted electric poles. It also replaced 800 kilometres of hazardous overhead wires in narrow urban lanes with insulated Aerial Bunched (AB) cables. These upgrades enhanced both public safety and supply reliability.

In parallel, TGSPDCL introduced a major urban reform the Pole-Mounted Distribution Transformer system. Unlike traditional transformers that need 30–35 sq ft of land, the new model mounts transformers on narrow poles of 377 mm diameter, solving space constraints and improving safety in dense localities.

The utility has approved 304 such installations, with 150 pole-mounted transformers already operational. TGSPDCL plans to deploy 6,500 more in the next year.

Significant infrastructure expansion during the year

In 2025, TGSPDCL installed 7,531 new distribution transformers and 291 power transformers. It also commenced work on 97 new 33/11 kV substations, with completion targeted by the end of the current financial year.

CMD Musharraf Faruqui reaffirmed the company’s commitment to reliable power supply. He said engineers and field staff will continue working with focus and dedication to meet consumer expectations across Telangana.
