Hyderabad: Bachupally Police on Friday seized ₹15 lakh worth of counterfeit ₹500 currency notes and arrested one person following a tip-off. The accused, Prathipati Prem Chandu from West Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh, was caught near Nizampet Arch while preparing to deliver the fake notes.
According to police, Prem Chandu was acting on the instructions of Rakesh, a resident of Pune, who had lured him into distributing fake currency in Hyderabad for commission-based earnings.
The police intercepted Prem Chandu around 3:30 p.m. on June 21 and recovered ₹15 lakh in counterfeit notes along with a Redmi mobile phone. He was arrested and remanded to judicial custody.
DCP Balanagar Zone K. Suresh Kumar commended ACP Kukatpally E. Ravikiran Reddy, Bachupally SHO Upender Rao, and SI K. Srinivas for their swift response in preventing the spread of fake currency.
