Zero tolerance for drunk driving: New Year warning by Hyderabad CP Sajjanar

Hyderabad: Hyderabad Police Commissioner Sajjanar issued a stern New Year warning, declaring zero tolerance for drunk driving and stating that police would show no leniency to violators.

He said the police had prepared a special action plan to maintain law and order and prevent road accidents. Accordingly, officers would intensify enforcement across the city during the celebrations.

Sajjanar said police would impose heavy fines on those caught driving under the influence. In addition, officers would seize vehicles and initiate court proceedings. He warned that courts could also award jail terms and cancel driving licences.

Drunk driving checks at 120 locations across Hyderabad

As part of the drive, police will conduct special drunk driving checks at more than 120 key locations across Hyderabad on Wednesday night. Moreover, officials said the checks would continue throughout the first week of January and would not remain limited to New Year’s Eve.

Besides drunk driving, police will also act against overspeeding, triple riding and public nuisance. Similarly, those who disturb public peace in open places will face strict legal action.

Meanwhile, police advised people who consume alcohol to behave responsibly. They urged such persons to avoid driving and instead use cab services or designated drivers.

Finally, the police appealed to citizens to celebrate the New Year safely with family and friends. They said public cooperation remained essential to ensure peaceful celebrations across the city.
