Hyderabad: Minister for Forests, Environment and Endowments Konda Surekha said youth sustainable development goals efforts are crucial for biodiversity conservation and ecological balance.
She was speaking at the closing ceremony of the International Youth Biodiversity Conference-2026 held in Hyderabad. The three-day event was organised under the auspices of the Telangana Biodiversity Board. It brought together youth, environmental scientists, researchers, policymakers and voluntary organisations from India and abroad.
Konda Surekha said young people play a decisive role in protecting biodiversity and ensuring long-term ecological stability. Therefore, she urged them to actively participate in conservation initiatives and community outreach. She added that youth sustainable development goals action must remain a priority in public policy and grassroots movements.
The Minister said the conference featured technical seminars and discussions. Topics included biodiversity conservation, eco-friendly lifestyles under the ‘Life for the Environment’ concept, and youth skill development. Moreover, she noted that such platforms encourage collaboration between experts and young participants.

Konda Surekha said the Telangana government is promoting innovation and research linked to nature conservation. In addition, it is expanding environmental awareness programmes among young people across the state. She stated that Telangana’s biodiversity initiatives are gaining international recognition.
She called upon the youth to preserve natural resources for future generations. According to her, sustainable practices and scientific engagement are essential to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals for youth.
Noted author and Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Center Co-Founder and CEO Srujan Pal Singh attended the programme. Telangana State Biodiversity Council Member Secretary Kalicharan also participated in the closing ceremony.
