Hyderabad: International Yoga Day was observed at the historic Warangal Fort on Saturday, with participants performing asanas in the backdrop of Kakatiya-era architecture.
The event began with the lighting of a ceremonial lamp by Warangal District Collector Dr Satyasharada. Yoga instructor Amrutavalli led the session, which included students from government and private institutions, officials from various departments, and members of voluntary organisations.
Asanas were performed in the shadow of the Kirti Toranas, with the morning sun casting light across the sculptures and stone pillars of the fort. The event drew local attention for its distinctive mix of yoga practice set against the backdrop of a historic cultural landmark.
Speaking at the gathering, Collector Satyasharada noted that doing yoga at heritage sites strengthens the bond between physical well-being and the depth of India’s cultural legacy. She urged people to embrace yoga as a daily habit, calling it more than just exercise—a living link to the country’s ancient meditative traditions.
Padma Shri awardee Som Lal, corporators Velpugonda Suvarna and Bairaboyina Uma (Divisions 37 and 38), Archaeological Survey of India AE Kishore Reddy, and several senior district officers attended the programme. Officials included DMHO Dr Sambasiva Rao, ZP CEO Ram Reddy, DRDO PD Kousalya Devi, DIPRO Ayub Ali, BC Welfare Officer Pushpalatha, DAO Phani Kumar, Khila Warangal Tahsildar Bandi Nageshwar Rao, NSS coordinator Srinivas, and others from various departments.
