Hyderabad: In a push to fix the long-standing sewage woes in Yakutpura’s Moulana Ka Chilla and Ganganagar, Hyderabad’s civic and water authorities have teamed up for a joint effort aimed at easing the annual monsoon misery.
Every rainy season, Moulana Ka Chilla nala and Ganganagar’s narrow, low-lying lanes get flooded with dirty water as drains overflow into homes. The situation has steadily deteriorated following road-widening and nala expansion work by the GHMC, which left behind silt build-up in stormwater and sewer lines, choking the natural flow.
Taking a hands-on approach, HMWSSB Managing Director Ashok Reddy, GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan, and local AIMIM MLA Jaffer Hussain carried out a site inspection this week. Officials found that certain stormwater drains—particularly those running beneath houses—were key culprits in the recurring mess.
To tackle the issue head-on, both departments agreed to launch a simultaneous desilting drive for nalas and sewer lines to keep rainwater from backing up again. Ashok Reddy also directed engineers to make sure newly laid sewer lines align with the area’s natural slope, preventing future blockages.
Larger fixes are on the table too. Before any major nala restructuring, officials will run feasibility checks—especially where drains run through densely packed residential pockets. They also emphasized that GHMC’s nala expansion must move in lockstep with HMWSSB’s sewer upgrades.
Joining the inspection were Water Board Operations Director Amarender Reddy, CGMs Nagendra and Vinod Bhargav, GMs Santosh Kumar and Shyam Sundar Nayak, along with other GHMC officials and local leaders.
