Hyderabad: Women self-help groups (SHGs) have earned ₹1 crore in monthly income by leasing 150 buses to the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC), according to officials. Each bus is being hired at a monthly rate of ₹70,000, TSRTC said.
The corporation released the first instalment of payments this week. SERP officials, who coordinated the lease through women’s groups, received the payment cheque from the TSRTC management.
Senior SERP officer Divya Devarajan and department staff met Minister Seethakka to share the development. They marked the occasion by offering sweets to the minister, who congratulated SERP staff, SHG members, and the CEO.
Minister Seethakka also called Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar to thank him for facilitating the agreement, which she said had opened a steady income stream for SHGs.
The cheque distribution event for SHG groups that own the leased buses is scheduled for July 5 at Praja Bhavan. SHG representatives have been invited to attend.
