Women reservation 2029 to be implemented, says Ramchander Rao

Hyderabad: Women reservation 2029 will come into effect from the general elections that year, Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao said on Wednesday, outlining the timeline for implementation of the 33% quota in legislative bodies.

He addressed residents of Shilpa Park Apartments in Kondapur and described the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam as a key step towards expanding women’s political representation. The BJP leader said the legislation aimed to improve participation in lawmaking institutions.

He also spoke about the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. According to him, the Election Commission of India conducts the exercise periodically to update voter data. He noted that the last such revision took place in 2002 and added that it addresses changes caused by migration, deaths and relocation.

Further, he urged citizens to use Form 6 for new registrations, Form 7 for deletions and Form 8 for corrections. These steps, he said, help maintain accurate electoral rolls and protect voting rights.

Rao then raised concerns over alleged irregularities in parts of Hyderabad’s Old City. Rao pointed to unusual voter concentrations and alleged that illegal immigrants, including Rohingyas, had obtained voter identity cards with political support. He proposed a “Detect, Delete, Deport” approach to address the issue.

He also referred to the Centre’s economic management and said India had maintained stability despite global pressures, including rising oil prices.
