HYDERABAD: One woman was killed and several others injured as a car was crushed between a lorry and a DCM vehicle on the national highway near Kandur in Addakal mandal of Mahabubnagar district on Wednesday morning.
The incident occurred on the bridge at Kandur stage when a scooter and a lorry were travelling side by side. A DCM vehicle approaching from behind suddenly braked as it couldn’t overtake. A speeding car following the DCM crashed into it, and a lorry behind the car rammed into it from the rear, sandwiching the car between both heavy vehicles.
The car was completely mangled in the collision. One of the occupants, Shobharani (50), died on the spot. Her husband Ellareddy, her mother Vimalamma, and the car driver sustained injuries. The DCM, after being hit, also collided with the scooter, injuring the rider, identified as Raghupati Reddy.
Traffic on the bridge came to a standstill following the crash. Addakal SI Srinivasulu and Moosapet SI Venu reached the spot with their teams. With help from L&T staff and locals, the injured were rescued from the car with great difficulty.
They were later shifted to the district hospital by ambulance. The victims in the car were residents of Sankireddipalli village in Kothakota mandal, Wanaparthy district, and were on their way to Hyderabad to attend a wedding.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation. The condition of the injured remains under observation.
