Vivek Venkatswamy orders reforms in ESI hospitals, warns against negligence

Hyderabad: Labour and Employment Minister Dr. G. Vivek Venkatswamy on Wednesday directed ESI hospital officials across Telangana to place patient care at the centre of their operations. He emphasised that Insured Persons (IPs) and their dependents must receive timely and quality treatment.

During a review meeting at the Secretariat, he warned that negligence in official duties would result in strict disciplinary action. Additionally, he instructed hospital authorities to ensure that infrastructure and medicine stocks remain adequate and that Telangana receives its due funding share from the Centre through ESIC.

CT scan for Nacharam, ICU at RC Puram, staff recruitment in pipeline

Dr. Vivek approved two major upgrades—a CT scan facility at ESI Hospital in Nacharam and an ICU at R.C. Puram. He set a two-month deadline for completion. To address manpower shortages, he noted that a proposal to recruit 600 staff, including doctors and paramedics, had already been submitted to the MHSRRB. He urged immediate follow-up.

Special Chief Secretary (LETF) Dana Kishore, hospital superintendents, and senior medical staff attended the meeting. The Minister reviewed staff strength, hospital operations, and service quality, reaffirming his stance of zero tolerance toward poor delivery of healthcare.

To maintain consistency, he instructed the Special Chief Secretary to personally monitor all administrative issues. Moreover, he called for a cultural shift within ESI hospitals, aiming for a work environment that is inclusive, responsive, and accountable.

New dispensary proposed in Mancherial; drug procurement reforms sought

Vivek also directed officials to identify land for a new ESI dispensary at Mandamarri or R.K. Puram in Mancherial. He suggested sourcing land from SCCL, given the area’s large labour population.

Further, he reviewed the status of Central schemes and stressed uninterrupted delivery without causing delays to beneficiaries. He demanded complete transparency in drug procurement and strict compliance with protocols.

Listening to grievances raised by hospital staff, he asked officials to resolve them amicably and on priority. He reiterated that administrative bottlenecks must never compromise patient care in the state’s ESI network.
