Veteran Telugu writer Shivashakti Datta dies at 92, Tollywood mourns

Hyderabad: Noted Telugu lyricist and screenwriter Shivashakti Datta passed away at the age of 92. The veteran writer was the father of acclaimed music director MM Keeravani.

Born Koduri Subba Rao, Datta penned songs, stories, and screenplays for several landmark films, especially those directed by S.S. Rajamouli and scored by his son Keeravani. His work earned acclaim for its lyrical depth and cultural resonance.

Most recently, Datta wrote a devotional track for Prasanth Varma’s ‘HanuMan’, which was well-received by audiences.

Apart from his literary achievements, Shivashakti Datta was also an accomplished painter. His artworks reportedly stunned visitors, including actor Anupam Kher, who admired the collection during a personal visit.

Tollywood stars, directors, and writers expressed condolences over the loss, remembering him as a creative force who shaped Telugu cinema’s narrative and musical traditions.
