Vemulawada MLA Adi Srinivas escapes injury in housing collapse scare

Hyderabad: Congress MLA and Government Whip Adi Srinivas narrowly avoided injury on Tuesday when the basement of a 2-BHK house he was inspecting collapsed during an official visit in Vemulawada.

The incident took place within the Vemulawada municipal limits while the MLA was accompanied by in-charge Collector Garima Agarwal and other local officials. The delegation was examining houses built under a government housing scheme when a visible sag in the basement floor prompted immediate concern.

Poor construction suspected in Adi Srinivas building collapse scare

Officials quickly moved Adi Srinivas away from the site, seconds before the basement caved in. The structure, reportedly built five years ago, showed signs of construction defects and poor maintenance. Authorities suspect substandard materials and lack of upkeep contributed to the failure.

A video capturing the moment of the collapse has gone viral on social media, raising fresh questions about construction oversight in public housing projects.

The MLA later called for a safety audit of all similar structures in the area to prevent future mishaps. Local authorities have begun an enquiry to identify the contractors responsible for the faulty construction.
