Vamsi Krishna demands semiconductor plant in Peddapalli-Mancherial, slams Centre’s Andhra shift

Hyderabad: Congress MP Gaddam Vamsi Krishna on Monday asked the Centre to establish a semiconductor plant in the Peddapalli–Mancherial corridor. He alleged the Union Government had shown political bias by shifting a key project to Andhra Pradesh.

Vamsi submitted a formal representation to Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi. He argued that Peddapalli–Mancherial has better infrastructure, a reliable water supply from the Godavari, and a skilled workforce. He also pointed to the presence of RFCL, Singareni Collieries, and NTPC as major industrial anchors.

Centre favoured Andhra despite Telangana’s readiness, says MP

Vamsi criticised the Centre’s ₹468-crore semiconductor approval for Andhra Pradesh under the India Semiconductor Mission. He accused the NDA of favouring its political ally, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), and ignoring Telangana’s capabilities.

“Instead of valuing regional merit, the Centre chose politics over performance,” Vamsi said. He claimed that the Peddapalli–Mancherial region was fully prepared and offered strong industrial advantages.

According to him, setting up the plant in Telangana would generate large-scale employment and reduce joblessness in the region. It would also help expand the state’s manufacturing base.

The criticism came after the Centre’s August 2025 clearance for the Andhra plant. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had welcomed the decision as a milestone for the electronics sector. However, Telangana leaders say their state had already offered land, incentives, and investor backing before the project moved south.
