Hyderabad: In a significant bust, police arrested two men for illegally selling marijuana-laced (Ganja) chocolates and banned tobacco products in Hyderabad’s Hayathnagar area. Officers seized ten packets containing a total of 2.035 kilograms of ganja, along with prohibited tobacco products worth ₹40,000.
According to police, Gundu Shekhar (40), originally from Puttapaka village in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district’s Sansthan Narayanapuram mandal, had been residing with his family in Shubhodaya Colony, Hayathnagar. He was running a shop under the name Durga Bhavani Traders on Kuntlur Road. His accomplice, Rishi Shankar Mishra alias Guddu (39), from Bihar, was allegedly supplying him with the banned tobacco items and marijuana-infused chocolates.
Acting on a tip-off, sub-inspectors Katta Venkat Reddy and Lakshminarayana, along with their teams, raided the Durga Bhavani Traders outlet. During the search, police recovered nine packets of marijuana chocolates labelled “Seven Minar Vatti” and ten more packets branded as “Charminar Gold Munakka,” all containing ganja. In addition, they seized banned tobacco products valued at ₹40,000.
Both suspects have been booked under multiple sections, including BNS Section 20(i), COTPA, and 20(b)(ii)(A) of the NDPS Act, 1985. Police also used the occasion to warn locals in and around Hayathnagar about the severe health risks of consuming such illegal substances.
Hayathnagar Circle Inspector Nagaraj Goud urged the public to immediately report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or call Dial 100 for prompt action.
