Two arrested for ganja peddling near Kalwakurthy; 2.5 kg seized

Hyderabad: Police arrested two individuals near Kalwakurthy for allegedly peddling ganja and seized 2.5 kilograms of the substance along with two mobile phones. The arrest took place in Urkonda mandal under Kalwakurthy division in Nagarkurnool district.

According to CI Nagarjuna, local residents reported suspicious activity near the Surya Latha Spinning Mill along the Jadcherla–Kodad highway on the outskirts of Urkonda Peta village. Acting on the alert, Kalwakurthy CI Nagarjuna, along with Urkonda SI Krishna Deva and his team, swiftly apprehended the two suspects. The suspects were hiding in nearby bushes with a bag.

During interrogation, the accused were identified as Littu Malik (35) and Abhimanyu Malik (32). Both are natives of Odisha and employed as machine operators at the spinning mill.

Police said Abhimanyu Malik had traveled to Odisha on January 17. Littu Malik allegedly gave him ₹20,000 to procure ganja, which was later transported back to Kalwakurthy. The accused concealed the ganja in the bushes near the mill and sold it in smaller quantities for profit.

They were caught while attempting to sell the remaining ganja. CI Nagarjuna estimated the value of the seized ganja at around ₹59,000.

The accused have been remanded to judicial custody. Authorities also seized two mobile phones used in the operation. CI Nagarjuna and SI Krishna Deva urged the public to report any information about ganja trade or use. Furthermore, they warned that strict action would be taken against violators.

SP Sangram Singh commended SI Krishna Deva and constables Harsha, Tirupathaiya, and Venkanna for their swift response and effective action.
