Hyderabad: The Telangana State Human Rights Commission (TSHRC) orders restoration of water and electricity supply to Dalit families in Hanumakonda and directs authorities to ensure protection against coercive eviction.
The Telangana Human Rights Commission, headed by Dr Justice Shameem Akther, issued interim recommendations in S.R. Nos. 593 and 663 of 2026. The orders followed complaints from 30 Scheduled Caste residents of Cherabanda Raju Nagar.
The complainants alleged unlawful disconnection of drinking water, threats of demolition and caste-based discrimination. They stated that authorities acted despite their possession of valid house-site pattas.
TSHRC orders restoration, seeks compliance report
The Commission observed that such actions violate constitutional guarantees of equality and the right to life with dignity. Therefore, it directed the District Collector, Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation and TG-NPDCL to immediately restore water and power supply. It also restrained authorities from taking coercive eviction measures.
The Commission advised the Commissioner of Police, Warangal, to prevent caste-based intimidation and ensure protection to residents. Meanwhile, it asked the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police to monitor compliance. Authorities must submit reports before the next hearing scheduled for March 9, 2026.
Dr Dasoju Shravan Kumar, MLC, presented the complaint before the Commission along with Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar, Gellu Srinivas Yadav, advocate Venugopal Rao, T Balu of BRSV and Vishweshwar of the BRS Legal Cell.
