Hyderabad: Roads & Buildings and Cinematography Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy called for a united effort to transform Nalgonda, urging newly elected corporators of the Nalgonda Municipal Corporation to serve with integrity and commitment.
He spoke at the Mayor and Deputy Mayor election and oath-taking ceremony held at the Corporation meeting hall on Monday. Addressing the gathering, he said public representatives must honour the trust placed in them. Positions, he noted, were temporary, but reputation earned through service would endure.
The Minister advised corporators to coordinate closely with the Mayor. He asked them to bring pressing civic issues to his attention whenever necessary. According to him, collective responsibility would help transform Nalgonda in a sustained manner.
Minister outlines vision to transform Nalgonda through unity
Emphasising social justice, Komatireddy said the Deputy Mayor’s post was assigned to a minority representative as part of the government’s inclusive policy. He stated that urban development rested in the hands of the corporators. If they worked together, he said, the city could witness faster progress.
He urged them not to dilute welfare measures aimed at the poor. The Minister then listed several initiatives undertaken by the State government. He said ration cards were being issued and six kilograms of fine rice were being supplied to eligible beneficiaries.
Furthermore, he noted that ₹5,000 crore had been paid to power utilities towards free electricity supply up to 200 units. He stated that these measures reflected the government’s commitment to welfare even as it sought to transform Nalgonda through development.
Welfare projects announced to transform Nalgonda infrastructure
Komatireddy stated that he had provided a laparoscopic machine to the Government General Hospital in Nalgonda from his personal funds. He added that construction of the new building for Manyam Chelka Government Hospital was nearing completion.
In addition, four more schools would be upgraded on the lines of Bottuguda School. He assured corporators that funds would not be a constraint for development activities. As part of livelihood support, he announced that 1,137 sewing machines would soon be allotted to the municipality.
These machines, he said, would be distributed equally among wards for poor women. Moreover, he declared that if corporators functioned cohesively, he would facilitate the release of ₹100 crore through the Chief Minister for development works of the Corporation. Such coordinated action, he reiterated, would help transform Nalgonda comprehensively.
Earlier, Burri Chaitanya Reddy was unanimously elected as Mayor. Ashraf Ali Mohammed was elected as Deputy Mayor. The election process was conducted under the supervision of Special Officer Shravan.
