Hyderabad: TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud welcomed the Telangana High Court’s directive to conduct local body elections by September 30, stating it was a long-overdue step. Addressing media at Gandhi Bhavan on Wednesday, he said the elections should have taken place four months ago but were delayed due to the Congress government’s intention to implement 42 percent reservations for BCs.
He said the state had already completed the categorisation of SC and BC groups and submitted the proposal to the Centre, where it is pending clearance. He criticised the silence of BJP ministers on the issue and said the matter would be discussed in the state Cabinet shortly.
Goud confirmed that elections would be held only with the proposed 42 percent BC quota. He said the development achieved by the Congress in the last 18 months outpaced what the BRS managed in a decade.
He accused the BRS of spreading misinformation online to discredit the current administration. He urged the public not to fall for social media propaganda, claiming no other government had achieved the kind of social justice implemented under Congress.
He further alleged that BRS had introduced welfare schemes like Dalit Bandhu solely for electoral gains, citing the Huzurabad bypoll as an example. He also accused the previous government of compromising the state’s rights.
Responding to a media query, TPCC Chief Mahesh Goud assured that the demand for Muslim minority representation in the Cabinet would be accommodated in the next meeting of the state Cabinet.
