Hyderabad: Security forces shot dead three Maoists in an exchange of fire in Jharkhand’s Gumla district on Saturday. The encounter broke out during a combing operation in Ghaghra forest, where personnel came under fire from militants linked to the splinter group Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP), police said.
The gunfight began as forces launched an early morning sweep in the dense jungle. All three slain insurgents were identified as JJMP members. Inspector General Michel S. Raj confirmed that the operation was still underway in the area.
The clash comes days after a similar exchange in Bokaro district. On July 16, acting on intelligence about a Maoist gathering in the Birhordera forest near Gomia, CRPF units moved in. Maoists opened fire as forces approached, triggering a gunbattle that killed two rebels and one CRPF jawan.
