TGSRTC launches CCTV safety system in buses

Hyderabad: Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) launched a high-tech CCTV safety system in buses to improve passenger security and prevent accidents, thefts, and harassment during travel.

TGSRTC Managing Director Nagireddy introduced the initiative under a new project titled “Buslo Bharosa” in coordination with the Police Department. The pilot project has been launched in the erstwhile Adilabad district during the first phase.

Officials said advanced surveillance cameras were installed in nearly 175 buses operating in the Adilabad region. The CCTV safety system covers the entire bus interior, including the driver’s cabin, women’s reserved seats, footboard areas, and the last row of seats.

According to TGSRTC, the cameras record activities inside the buses, including passenger movement and suspicious behaviour. The footage can be monitored by drivers, conductors, and RTC control room officials through an integrated surveillance system.

Buslo Bharosa project expands CCTV safety system

Nagireddy said the project aimed to prevent incidents involving harassment of women passengers, thefts, and inappropriate behaviour during travel. He stated that the presence of surveillance cameras would create fear among criminals and improve passenger confidence, especially among women and elderly travellers.

The TGSRTC MD said the CCTV safety system would also help authorities identify criminal gangs and suspicious individuals travelling in buses. In case of accidents or untoward incidents, the footage could provide immediate evidence for investigation.

Officials further stated that the surveillance system was expected to improve driving standards and encourage RTC staff to work more responsibly.

Nagireddy said TGSRTC was planning to expand the CCTV project to buses in all depots across Telangana based on the results of the Adilabad pilot programme. He added that passengers appreciated the corporation’s technology-driven approach towards public safety.
