Hyderabad: The Telangana Human Rights Commission (TGHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of the Chevella bus accident that claimed 19 lives and has directed multiple departments to submit detailed reports by December 15.
The accident occurred near Mirjaguda village in Chevella mandal of Ranga Reddy district on NH-163, where a gravel-laden tipper collided with a Telangana RTC bus. The Commission, headed by Chairperson Dr. Justice Shameem Akther, registered the matter under HRC No.7141/2025.
Citing repeated accidents on the Hyderabad–Bijapur Highway, the TGHRC pointed to possible systemic negligence in road safety enforcement, infrastructure management, and regulatory oversight. It noted that such failures could constitute violations of the Right to Life under Article 21 of the Constitution.
The Commission directed comprehensive factual and action-taken reports from the departments of Transport, Home, Mines and Geology, NHAI, the Ranga Reddy District Collector, and TG-RTC. All concerned authorities must present their reports by 11 AM on December 15, 2025.
