Hyderabad: Telangana Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar has served a legal notice to former MLA Methuku Anand, accusing him of defamation. He is seeking Rs.10 crore in damages.
The notice, issued through his counsel, demands an unconditional public apology from Anand within seven days. It accuses the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Vikarabad district president of making false and defamatory statements against the Speaker. These remarks were made during press conferences held on January 14 and January 19, 2026.
According to the legal notice, Anand alleged corruption and bribery in matters related to MLA disqualification cases. Kumar has warned that failure to comply will lead to civil and criminal proceedings under Sections 499 and 500 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
Anand’s allegations, termed “baseless and fabricated” in the notice, were reportedly aimed at damaging the reputation of the Speaker. The Speaker also represents Vikarabad in the Assembly.
