Hyderabad: Telangana Industries and IT Minister D. Sridhar Babu invited garment manufacturers in Tiruppur to invest in textile units across Telangana’s tier-2 and tier-3 cities, citing the state’s robust infrastructure and policy support.
During his visit to Coimbatore and Tiruppur on Tuesday, Sridhar Babu met with top textile exporters and industrial leaders. Addressing them, he described Tiruppur as the “Knitwear Capital of India” and acknowledged its contribution of nearly 90% to India’s cotton-based apparel exports, including casual wear, sportswear, socks, and caps. He praised the city’s global reputation for garment exports since the 1990s and noted its employment of lakhs through nearly 10,000 units.
He highlighted Telangana’s advantage in long-staple cotton production, which is critical for manufacturing premium ready-made garments. The Minister urged apparel leaders to attend an upcoming roundtable, chaired by Agriculture and Textiles Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao, where Telangana’s new Textiles Policy will be finalized following stakeholder consultations.

Referring to recent challenges in the global apparel trade, Sridhar Babu said the 50% tariff imposed by the US had disrupted Indian exports. He stressed the need for the sector to identify new markets and strategies, adding that Telangana offered an ideal platform for expansion.
As part of his outreach, he met with Hero Fashion Group (Ramraj Cottons) Chairman K.R. Nagarajan and Managing Director Sundaramurthy, encouraging them to explore Telangana as an investment destination. He also held discussions with South India Mills Association Secretary General K. Selvaraj, Tiruppur Exporters’ Association leaders Dr A. Shaktivel and K.M. Subramanian, Chandhra Group’s Gopi Kumar, and Indian Texpreneurs Federation representative M. Prabhudamodaran.
The Minister assured industry leaders that Telangana provides investor-friendly policies and comprehensive facilitation for new and expanding industries.
Later, Sridhar Babu visited the Netaji Apparel Park in Tiruppur, where he engaged directly with multiple stakeholders. He was accompanied by Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TSIIC) Managing Director Shashank and Telangana Textiles and Apparel KMTP Director Dharani Kumar Koganti.
