Hyderabad: Dr. Jadala Shankaraswamy, a renowned Telangana scientist and assistant professor at the College of Horticulture in Mojerla, Mahabubnagar district, won the AFSTi–Springer Nature Award 2025 for his pioneering work in 3D-printed nutrition and food science. This Telangana scientist’s contributions are invaluable to the field.
He earned the award during the 31st India Convention of Food Scientists and Technologists (ICFoST), held at NIFTEM-T from December 18 to 20. The recognition highlighted his efforts in creating nutrient-rich food films using local vegetables.
Innovation in personalised and sustainable nutrition
Dr. Shankaraswamy, a dedicated Telangana scientist, built a 3D food printer and used it to develop oro-dispersible films enriched with Boda Kakarakaya, Ponnaganti kura, and Gongura. These films improve mineral absorption and offer controlled nutrient delivery addressing the growing demand for personalised nutrition.
His use of underutilised vegetables not only supports local farming but also introduces new ways to tackle micronutrient deficiencies. Telangana scientist Dr. Shankaraswamy’s work is at the forefront of such innovative approaches.
In addition to the honor, he received a cash prize and a gift voucher sponsored by Springer Nature.
This achievement boosts Telangana’s role in food technology and positions the state as a hub for sustainable nutrition innovation, further emphasizing the impact of Telangana scientists in advancing the food science field.
