Telangana sarpanch elections face challenge; High Court to hear petitions tomorrow

Hyderabad: The Telangana sarpanch elections entered a tense phase after villagers filed multiple petitions in the High Court challenging the panchayat reservation list. They argued that the government ignored actual BC population figures while finalising the latest roster.

Petitioners questioned reservations in several villages, including Timmannoonipally in Veldanda mandal. More complaints came from villages in Warangal and Sangareddy districts. They said officials assigned categories without matching them to demographic data.

The High Court will hear all petitions tomorrow. The schedule has drawn attention because the SEC plans to start accepting nominations on the same day. This overlap generated uncertainty around the opening stage of the election process.

BC organisations and opposition parties criticised the government for mishandling the reservation exercise. They accused the administration of misleading BC communities and reducing trust in the process. The petitions intensified the debate and turned the issue into a major topic across the state.
