Telangana rolls out welfare schemes to empower women

Hyderabad: Labour and Employment Minister Dr. G. Vivek Venkatswamy on Saturday said the Telangana government has launched targeted welfare schemes to empower women and enhance their financial independence.

He addressed public gatherings during Indira Mahila Shakti Saree Distribution events held in Gajwel, Siddipet, and Dubbaka. The Minister said the initiative commemorates the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, who, he noted, stood as a symbol of courage, grace, and leadership.

Congress focuses on dignity and inclusion for women

Dr. Venkatswamy reaffirmed the Congress government’s commitment to enabling women to thrive in every sector. “Indira Gandhi’s legacy continues to inspire today’s women,” he said.

To this end, the state has rolled out several women-centric schemes. These include Free Bus Travel, subsidised ₹500 gas cylinders, financial aid for self-help groups, and registration under the Indiramma Housing programme.

Telangana weavers reinforce cultural identity

He also highlighted the cultural relevance of the saree drive. All sarees distributed through the programme are woven by local artisans from Telangana. “These sarees carry not just fabric, but the cultural soul of Telangana,” he remarked.

According to the Minister, the government has so far sanctioned over 74,000 ration cards in Siddipet district. As a result, these families now have access to a wider range of welfare schemes. Moreover, the administration has already disbursed basement payments for nearly 9,000 Indiramma housing units in the area.

Looking ahead, Dr. Venkatswamy said the government will continue to expand women’s welfare efforts. All future schemes, he assured, will offer practical assistance and tangible results.
