Hyderabad: Telangana will be developed into the country’s best model for disaster management. Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said this on Wednesday.
The minister reviewed the preparedness of Fire Services, SDRF, and HYDRAA wings during a meeting with senior officials at the Secretariat. He announced that the state will introduce advanced technology systems. Additionally, the government will establish a dedicated training center for disaster response personnel.
Disaster management Telangana to integrate advanced tools and unified response
Ponguleti said weather monitoring centers equipped with modern systems will be set up at the mandal level. The government also plans to procure high-speed boats and drones capable of lifting heavy loads to enhance rescue capacity.
To strengthen urban fire safety, new equipment will soon be deployed to tackle emergencies in high-rise buildings. The minister directed that all three disaster management departments—Fire Services, SDRF, and HYDRAA should function in coordination. They should operate under a single command structure.
He also revealed that the number of HYDRAA teams in the Hyderabad region had been increased from 30 to 70. Staffing levels are being scaled up accordingly to improve response times.
Preventive disaster response and public access key to Telangana’s plan
The state will launch a dedicated toll-free helpline for public use across Telangana. Ponguleti stressed that the government’s goal is not just to respond to disasters, but to proactively implement preventive measures.
He reiterated that Telangana’s disaster management strategy will focus equally on technology, training, and timely coordination. This will make the system nationally exemplary.
