Telangana to reward road accident helpers under Rah Veer scheme

Hyderabad: The Telangana government decided to reward citizens who help road accident victims by rushing them to hospitals and saving lives. The state announced a ₹25,000 cash reward for individuals who promptly assist injured victims at accident sites.

The government said it would effectively implement the Centre’s Rah Veer scheme across Telangana. Officials stated that the initiative aims to encourage public participation during emergencies and reduce fatalities caused by delayed medical care.

Transport department officials said fear of police cases often discourages people from helping accident victims. Therefore, the scheme seeks to remove hesitation and promote humanitarian action. Along with the cash reward, the state will also present a certificate of appreciation to those who assist victims.

Golden Hour focus to reduce road accident deaths

Medical experts define the first hour after an accident as the “Golden Hour”, during which timely medical treatment can significantly increase survival chances. However, officials noted that many deaths occur because victims fail to reach hospitals on time.

The Centre introduced the Rah Veer scheme to address this gap by motivating citizens to act without fear or delay. The Telangana transport department said the scheme focuses on public awareness, responsibility, and faster emergency response.

Until now, Telangana had not implemented the scheme despite a steady rise in road accident deaths. Considering the growing fatalities, the state decided to roll out the Rah Veer scheme immediately. Officials expressed confidence that the decision would increase the number of people stepping forward to save lives during accidents.
