Hyderabad: The Telangana government has reorganised police commissionerates in the Greater Hyderabad region to strengthen law and order and improve public service delivery.
The decision follows the expansion of GHMC limits and, importantly, forms part of the Telangana Rising 2047 vision. At the same time, it aligns with the revised GHMC zoning system and the CURE–PURE–RARE regional development strategy.
Under the new structure, the Hyderabad Police Commissionerate will cover key locations. These include the Assembly, Secretariat, Begumpet area, Shamshabad Airport and the Budvel High Court.
Meanwhile, the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate will continue to oversee major IT corridors. These include Gachibowli, the Financial District, Nanakramguda, Madhapur and Raidurg. In addition, it will cover industrial areas such as Patancheru, Genome Valley, Ramachandrapuram and Ameenpur.
New commissionerates notified
As part of the reorganisation, the government has created two new police commissionerates. The Malkajgiri Police Commissionerate will cover Keesara, Shamirpet, Quthbullapur and Kompally.
Similarly, the newly formed Future City Police Commissionerate will oversee Chevella, Moinabad, Shankarpally, Maheshwaram, Ibrahimpatnam and surrounding areas.
At the same time, the government removed Yadadri–Bhongir district from the commissionerate system. The district will now function as a separate police unit under a Superintendent of Police.
Further, the government issued orders late on Monday night appointing Police Commissioners for the new set-up. Accordingly, Ramesh Reddy took charge as Cyberabad Commissioner, Avinash Mohanty assumed charge as Malkajgiri Commissioner and Sudheer Babu was posted as Future City Commissioner. In addition, the government transferred Akanksh Yadav and posted him as Superintendent of Police, Yadadri.
Officials said the reorganisation and fresh postings would, therefore, improve efficiency, response time and coordination as the Hyderabad metropolitan region continues to expand.
