Telangana record rainfall leaves districts flooded, Kamareddy tops chart

Hyderabad: Telangana witnessed record-breaking rainfall on August 27, causing floods across multiple districts and leaving roads, villages, and towns under water. The cloudburst-like downpour paralysed normal life, with overflowing streams and canals disrupting movement and submerging habitations.

Officials confirmed that Kamareddy district was the worst hit, recording unprecedented rainfall. Argonda in Kamareddy logged 41.83 cm, setting a new record for the highest single-day rainfall in the district. This was the first time such a high figure was recorded in a single day during the monsoon. Other parts of the district also saw heavy rains, with IDOC (Kamareddy) reporting 28.65 cm and Bikanur recording 27.9 cm.

Telangana record rainfall submerges towns and disrupts life

In Nirmal district, Akkapur reported 32 cm of rainfall, followed by Wadyal at 27.58 cm, Vishwanathpet at 23.38 cm, and Mujgi at 22 cm. Medak district also reported extensive rains, with Sardhana recording 26.33 cm and Nagapur logging 23.65 cm. Tadwai in Kamareddy received 27 cm, while Patha Rajampet registered 24.1 cm.

Overall, more than 18 locations across Telangana reported exceptionally high rainfall. The Meteorological Centre confirmed that the intensity was among the highest recorded in recent years. Villagers reported severe disruption to daily life, with floodwaters cutting off access roads and inundating agricultural fields.

Officials said that rescue and relief measures were being closely monitored. Authorities urged citizens to remain indoors and avoid venturing near overflowing streams. With water levels continuing to rise, administrations in Kamareddy, Nirmal, and Medak have been kept on high alert.
