Telangana warns of legal action over fake news on Operation Sindoor

Hyderabad: Telangana’s Cyber Security Bureau has issued a firm public warning against spreading misinformation related to Operation Sindoor, saying offenders will face strict legal action under cybercrime laws.

The warning, posted on X, comes amid heightened tension across Hyderabad where major international and domestic events are underway. Authorities made it clear: distorted narratives, half-baked stories, and inflammatory social media posts won’t be taken lightly.

A dedicated WhatsApp number—8712672222—has been set up for citizens to report misleading or provocative content tied to the operation.

Security agencies are operating in a high-alert mode as the city hosts the Miss World 2025 pageant alongside several IPL fixtures. That combination has placed Hyderabad squarely in the national spotlight. Police presence has surged across sensitive zones. Checkpoints have multiplied. Special units are on continuous patrol.

All three Police Commissioners of Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Rachakonda are personally monitoring operations. Coordination between departments is tight, and surveillance systems are running at full tilt.

Officials are urging residents to act responsibly. Avoid reposting rumours. Don’t forward content unless it’s confirmed. Stay off the speculation train. Any breach of cyber protocol during this sensitive period, they said, will carry serious consequences.

“People need to understand that one reckless message can cause disproportionate harm,” said one senior official.
