Telangana municipal polling records 73.01 per cent turnout

Hyderabad: Telangana municipal polling recorded an overall turnout of 73.01 per cent across the state, election officials said on Wednesday.

Voters turned out in large numbers and exercised their franchise at polling stations. In seven municipal corporations, polling registered a 66.05 per cent turnout. Meanwhile, in 116 municipalities, turnout stood higher at 75.88 per cent.

Among municipalities, Choutuppal in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district recorded the highest turnout at 91.91 per cent. In contrast, Nandikonda municipality in Nalgonda district recorded the lowest turnout at 59.68 per cent.

Telangana municipal polling sees varied turnout across districts

In municipal corporations, Nalgonda recorded the highest turnout at 77.36 per cent. However, Nizamabad Municipal Corporation registered the lowest turnout at 59.12 per cent.

Women voters slightly outnumbered men in participation. While 72.63 per cent of male voters cast their votes, 73.39 per cent of female voters exercised their franchise.

Officials said the counting of votes would take place on March 13. Overall, they described municipal polling as peaceful and successful, citing enthusiastic public participation.
