Hyderabad: Telangana Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha has ordered senior health officials to ensure comprehensive medical services for the Medaram Sammakka-Saralamma jatara, which attracts millions of devotees every year. He stressed the need for uninterrupted care from the moment pilgrims begin their journey until they return home.
On Saturday, the minister reviewed arrangements via video conference and evaluated the plan submitted by the Director of Public Health. He noted that many devotees have already started arriving. In response, the health department launched three main medical camps at Gaddelu, Jampanna vagu, and the RTC bus stand. The minister instructed officials to open additional camps in nearby areas to handle the increasing influx.
Officials reported the establishment of a 50-bed hospital—Sri Sammakka Saralamma Hospital inside the TTD Kalyana Mandapam at Medaram. They also set up two six-bed mini hospitals at Jampanna vagu and near an English medium school. Additionally, 30 medical camps are now operational around the jatara site.
Medaram jatara medical care expanded across major routes
To close any service gaps along major travel routes, the department deployed 42 en-route medical camps on eight key roads. The Hanumakonda–Medaram route hosts nine camps, while six have been set up for pilgrims from Chhattisgarh. Another five serve the Bhadrachalam corridor.
A total of 3,199 personnel from the former Warangal and Khammam districts are on duty. The team includes 544 doctors—among them, 72 specialists and 42 women doctors. They are supported by 2,150 paramedical staff, including nurses, ANMs, and ASHA workers. All teams are working in shifts to ensure 24/7 availability.
The department has deployed 35 ambulances to respond during critical emergencies, including heart attacks and accidents. In serious cases, teams will transfer patients to Mulugu Government General Hospital or MGM Hospital in Warangal. Both facilities have been instructed to remain fully staffed and alert for one month.
248 essential medicines prepared in advance
Officials confirmed that they stocked 248 essential drugs and surgical items in advance. This includes pediatric medicines and snakebite antidotes. All medical units will start operating at full capacity from January 25, when the peak rush is expected.
Minister Rajanarasimha expressed satisfaction with the preparations. He called for continuous on-ground supervision and directed Public Health Director Ravinder Nayak to inspect the Medaram arrangements immediately.
