Telangana to launch new Employees Health Scheme in 15 days

Hyderabad: The Telangana government will launch the new Employees Health Scheme within the next 15 days. The launch will take place in the presence of the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister.

Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao chaired a high-level meeting at the State Secretariat to finalise the rollout. During the meeting, officials and representatives of employee, teacher and pensioner associations discussed the framework in detail.

Special Chief Secretaries C.V. Anand and Mahesh Dutt Ekka attended. In addition, Finance Secretary Sandeep Sultania and Health Secretary Dr Christina Z. Chongthu participated in the discussions.

Contribution model finalised for Employees’ Health Scheme

Officials agreed that employees will contribute 1.5 per cent of their basic pay. At the same time, the government will match this with an equal 1.5 per cent contribution.

The scheme will cover 1.44 lakh employees and pensioners. Moreover, it will benefit 12.84 lakh dependents. As a result, the contributions are expected to generate ₹528 crore annually. The government will contribute a matching amount.

Further, the Trust governing the Employees’ Health Scheme will include six representatives from employee unions and two from pensioners. Additionally, authorities will appoint a State government employee as Chief Executive Officer.

Officials will finalise detailed guidelines shortly. Meanwhile, the Chief Secretary stated that providing quality healthcare to employees remains the government’s priority. He described the Employees’ Health Scheme as a significant step in strengthening employee welfare.
