Hyderabad: The Telangana government extended the instant pension facility to several more social security pension categories. As a result, eligible wives of deceased pensioners will receive immediate financial support.
Following directions from Minister Seethakka, the government expanded the scheme to cover families of persons with disabilities, toddy tappers, handloom workers, dialysis patients, people living with HIV and filariasis patients.
Earlier, the facility covered only wives of deceased old-age pensioners. However, the revised policy now includes other pension categories as well. The Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Department issued fresh guidelines for the expanded instant pension facility.
The government introduced the measure to protect women from financial hardship after losing their husbands. In addition, it aimed to ensure that social security assistance continued for affected families.
Instant pension facility follows age-based eligibility
Under the revised guidelines, the widow’s age will determine the pension category. Women below 57 years will qualify for a widow pension. Meanwhile, those aged 57 years or above will be eligible for an old-age pension, subject to the prescribed criteria.
Applicants in rural areas must submit their applications to the panchayat secretary. In urban areas, they must approach the bill collector.
Applicants must provide the wife’s Aadhaar card and the first page of her bank passbook. They must also submit the deceased pensioner’s Aadhaar card and death certificate.
After receiving the documents, the concerned officials will verify them. They will then enter the details in the Cheyutha portal. Once they confirm eligibility, officials will sanction the pension.
The expanded instant pension facility will therefore provide continued financial assistance to eligible families across the newly included categories. The guidelines also set out the application and verification process for beneficiaries.
