Hyderabad: The Telangana government reorganised civic administration in the Hyderabad region under the CURE framework, thereby constituting three separate municipal corporations through G.O.Ms. No. 55 issued on February 11, 2026.
The Metropolitan Area & Urban Development (GHMC-1) Department formalised the restructuring to strengthen decentralised urban governance. As a result, officials expect improved administrative efficiency and service delivery across the expanding metropolitan region.
Under the new arrangement, authorities constituted the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation and the Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation. Consequently, the move aims to provide focused governance tailored to each urban cluster.
CURE framework creates three municipal corporations
Under the revised structure, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation will function with six zones, 30 circles and 150 wards. In total, the corporation will cover approximately 689 square kilometres.
Officials said the CURE framework will facilitate better decentralisation and strengthen field-level administration. Moreover, the restructuring will enable more responsive civic services to residents.
To ensure smooth transition, the government assigned the Chief Secretary, Metropolitan Area & Urban Development Department, Jayesh Ranjan, additional charge as Special Officer for the three municipal corporations. He is currently supervising the reorganisation process from the GHMC head office.

Following the reorganisation, R V Karnan assumed charge as Commissioner of GHMC to maintain continuity and oversee implementation.
Overall, officials described the reform as a strategic step toward building a more accountable, citizen-centric and future-ready urban governance system for the Hyderabad metropolitan region.
